    Description

    This beautiful quechquemitl / triangle poncho is actually vintage, yet never worn (see below).  It is handmade in a huck weave style by an indigenous group in Puebla, Mexico, with a very complicated weave.  This pattern was popular in the 60's and 70's.  It has a black base and bold-colored, geometric patterns throughout.   It is a very soft, 50/50 cotton/wool blend.  Mid-weight.
    US Size Equivalent:  Small / Medium  (Women's Sizes 8/10/12 or older teen).

    The story behind many of my vintage Mexican dresses and ponchos and knowledge of their geographic source is that I have access to a former Mexican wholesaler who exported textiles from Mexico for nearly 50 years. He has brought thousands of textiles and folk art items to the border since the 70's from all over Mexico's ethnic regions and in every style. He still has a warehouse of imported items from those years, in which I can still find some fabulous vintage pieces from the 70's and 80's in particular. It is a true joy to hear he and his wife talk of where they traveled and when, and which indigenous group made each
    piece. Many of his old retailers in the Tex/Mex border towns have closed with the increasing border problems, yet until his fabulous import warehouse is depleted, I will continue to list and bring you these fabulous vintage pieces!
