Grading vintage stamps, First Day Covers (FDC’s) is a subjective process.
As a philatelist, I do my best to put a fair value on items at a bargain price!
I do careful research before listing an item in order to determine an honest price.
I determine the value of vintage stamps & FDC’s by using the Scott Catalog AND by
the age, the rarity, the condition, the country, and the interest of the item’s subject.

TOPIC
U.S. #1197
1962 4¢ Louisiana Statehood
U.S. #1197 showcases the 150th anniversary of the addition of Louisiana as a U.S state. It was added in 1812, just nine years after President Thomas Jefferson authorized the Louisiana Purchase. The stamp pictures a steamboat, which was a common sight on the Mississippi River. New Orleans was a major trading port, and steamboats brought goods there from the length of the Mississippi.
Of special interest:
FDR – The Stamp-Collecting President
Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s mother introduced the future President to stamp collecting at a young age. Throughout his life, he turned to his collection to relax and unwind.
TYPE
Commemorative Stamp
Commemorative stamps are regular postage stamps issued to honor some event, activity, or person of national importance; unlike other regular postage stamps (known as definitives), they are printed only once and are allowed to go out of circulation as their supply is used up.

Type
HAND STAMPED POSTMARK
(Lower right corner on this stamp.)
Handstamped cancellations are cancellations added by means of a hand stamping device.
The stamp cancellation marks serve as the testimony of every mail's adventures. You can usually find two inscriptions on a mailed envelope: a
stamp cancel and a postmark
. A postal cancel is any mark used to deface or “cancel” a postage stamp and prevent its unlawful reuse.
